Stamp Duty Holiday – Savings for London - David Astburys

Stamp Duty Holiday – Savings for London

12th August 2020

On 8 July 2020, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a Stamp Duty holiday on property transactions up to a threshold of £500,000 until 31 March 2021, great news for buyers in Crouch End and North London.

The intention of the Government was for the stamp duty holiday to sustain the increased demand seen in the housing market since reopening.

The latest statistics show that larger corporate estate agencies saw a decline in their weekly new instructions, while smaller independent agencies such as ourselves saw a rapid increase in new instructions and we forecast that trend will continue.

Based on the data the forecast for the housing market remains positive. Mortgage rates are very low which will help support higher prices and the stamp duty holiday will help maintain demand.
