Valentine’s Day in Hampstead (and a little beyond)

11th February 2026

Another day dedicated to love is nearly upon us, and when it comes to Valentine’s Day in London, you’re spoilt for choice. From candlelit cruises along the Thames to skyline dinners at The Shard, central London does romance very well.

But for those who prefer something a little more intimate, a little more charming, and a lot less hectic, Valentine’s Day in Hampstead really does hit different. Think cobbled streets, cosy corners, and the kind of places that make you quietly think, “I’m falling in love”

Whether you’re planning something romantic, keeping it low-key, or celebrating Galentine’s instead, here are our top five picks for Valentine’s Day in and around Hampstead.

The Freemasons Arms

Cosy lighting, generous pours of Cabernet Sauvignon, and food that actually lives up to the hype. The Freemasons Arms was always going to make this list.

A Hampstead favourite for good reason, their Valentine’s menu usually features pan-fried scallops, chateaubriand, and a French Martini to finish. All for under £40 a head, which, in North London terms, is practically a love letter.

If romance had a postcode, it would be The Freemasons Arms.

The Wet Fish Cafe

Slightly further out, but absolutely worth it. The Wet Fish Cafe delivers understated Parisian romance without trying too hard.

Candlelit tables, live jazz on selected evenings, and a menu that leans heavily into excellent seafood. Cornish mussels, seafood pasta, or the catch of the day,  all best enjoyed slowly.

And when dinner’s done? One last drink at nearby Tannin & Oak, a small, welcoming wine bar with a genuinely great selection. Very West Hampstead. Very charming.

La Cage Imaginaire

Over on the cobbled stretch of Flask Walk, La Cage Imaginaire is pure romance. White tablecloths, candelabras, and the unmistakable smell of French onion soup drifting through the room.

It feels like Paris without the Eurostar. And if you still have room for something sweet, Oddono’s is just a few steps away. Family-run, excellent gelato, and the pistachio is non-negotiable.

If this doesn’t win hearts, we don’t know what will.

Hampstead Heath → Primrose Hill

With Valentine’s Day falling on a Saturday this year, a daytime date feels very on-brand. And nothing beats a long, slow walk through Hampstead Heath.

Start near Kenwood House, grab a coffee, wander through the trees, drift past Belsize Park, then finish up at Primrose Hill just in time for skyline views. It’s basically your own One Day moment, minus the emotional damage.

There’s a reason people fall in love with this part of North London. Spend a few hours here and you’ll understand why.

Art4Fun

A little different, but perfect for couples who like to do something memorable. Art4Fun lets you paint your own pottery,  mugs, plates, vases, and yes, it’s BYOB.

Spend a couple of hours creating something together, glass of fizz in hand, and leave with a keepsake that lasts longer than a dinner reservation. Thoughtful, relaxed, and quietly romantic.

Why Hampstead always wins

Great food, green spaces, village streets, and places that make everyday moments feel special. It’s no surprise so many people fall in love with Hampstead,  first for Valentine’s Day, and then for good.

If you’re still deciding where to go this year, you can’t go far wrong here.
